The 85-lap, high-stakes race carries double points, with 100 awarded to the winner, 80 for second, 70 for third, etc., along with the regular four bonus points over three categories (Verizon P1 Award winner, leading a lap, leading the most laps). Despite a 47-point deficit heading into the season finale in 2015, Scott Dixon held off season-long points leader Juan Pablo Montoya for the victory in Sonoma and series championship. The win was Dixon's second consecutive and third overall in Sonoma (2007, '14, '15) and the 38th of his IndyCar career, putting him fifth on the all-time IndyCar victory list.
